For some reason NY Giants General Manger, Jerry Reese thought he was acquiring a pro bowl center when he signed a huge check to David Baas in 2011.  Despite winning a Super Bowl in 2011 Baas was a highly unproductive player missing 5 regular season games including the huge comeback win against Patriots in Foxboro.

On Monday, the often injured player(played 30 games in 3 years) was released despite the huge cap hit the NY Giants will take in 2014.  In fact $6.45 million will be against this years salary cap and he is owed $10.25 million over the next two years.  Not bad for showing up on the job only 60% of the time.

The only year Bass played every game for the Giants was during the 2012 season and Big Blue had the worst ranked rushing offense in the NFL.  Baas was a soft player that never stepped into the huge hole left by Shaun O’Hara.  The entire signing was somewhat odd, especially when you realize Baas only player center for one year.

Now the NY Giants search for a new center.  Be happy the salary cap number went in 2014 because Eli Manning needs some help after being sacked 39 times in 2013.

Maybe there was a reason Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers let him go and never looked back.
