Monday Morning Manning: Week 6

By: Marco Imperati

It wasn’t easy, and at most times, was not pretty. However, the Giants got a much needed 27-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The rollercoaster ride continues for the 2016 Ben Mcadoo lead New York Giants. The win vs the Ravens brings the Giants to a 3-3 record.

Eli Manning’s game was the tail of two halves. He looked very inconsistent in the first half. The fans were covering the field with boo’s after the Giants failed to string consistent drives together. Compiling over 100 yards in penalties doesn’t help Eli get into any kind of flow. However, in the 2nd half he connected with his young phenom wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli was able to surpass 300 touchdowns for his career. In the game, Manning finished with a stat line of 32/46, 403 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions.

Although the Giants got a win, there seems to be so much to dissect with this offense. McAdoo is calling the plays like he has the past two years, but things don’t seem to be insync. I think the lack of a true blocking tight end and fullback has restricted what this team could do. I was one who thought the team could line up their wide receivers vs any secondary and come away with yards and touchdowns. That has not been the case and the scores have not come easy.

Beckham’s two big touchdowns were important on so many levels. Besides the fact the offense has been flat lining, OBJ needed to bust out in a big way. Keeping the critics silenced for a week or two won’t hurt this player or team. As for Manning, the talk of late has been his declining play. Is he regressing? Has age finally caught up? Well let’s table that discussion for another week because Eli, when given time, looked as clutch as ever in the second half.

Keep an eye on: Who else, but Odell Beckham Jr. The “lightning rod” as called by his head coach, busted out of his professional and personal slump to literally put the Giants on his back and beat the Ravens. However it came with a price. Odell is dealing with a painful injury to his hip/oblique area. Chances are he will be playing next week but it is worthy of extra attention.

Up Next: Next up is the Los Angeles Rams in London as the Giants prepare to close out the first part of their schedule. Following this game will be the bye week and it comes at a good time as the Giants will look to get some defensive players back. The Rams are a tricky team. On offense they feature one of the best young running backs in the game, Todd Gurley. Their defense is lead by coordinator Gregg Williams who gets his group ready and motivated. The Giants won’t overlook this game and will look to get back to a winning record before the break.
