NY Giants: GM Jerry Reese Free Agent Options at CB

By Michael Stewart

CB-Logan Ryan (25) New England: Ryan could be a reach here as he had an outstanding season in 2016 which included: 92 tackles, 11 passes defended and 2 INT’S. His overall play could elevate his status and thus his demand that could be a little too much for Reese to consider.

Regardless; I’ve included Ryan for the simple fact that he is a solid one on one CB in the NFL and if Reese decides to release DRC, then replacing him Ryan, who would be more affordable makes sense. Despite having Jenkins and Apple penciled in as the two starting CB’s for 2017. In today’s NFL, you can’t have enough talent at the CB position and also with the history (injuries) of the Giants secondary; it just makes sense to bring in another talented CB for 2017.

CB-Marcus Cooper (26) Arizona:  Cooper led the Arizona Cardinals team with 4 INTS and often tested as Patrick Peterson was the other CB. Cooper made a Pro Bowl alternate in 2016 and could see his solid season be rewarded with a new contract. It makes a lot of sense for the Cardinals to bring him back as he would not break the bank.

However; with many FA already on their roster that were major contributors in 2016; it’s very possible that Cooper becomes a victim of the old mighty dollar. If so, Reese should at least consider Cooper as he would add instant credibility to the Giants secondary, not to mention value as well.

CB-Sterling Moore (27) New Orleans:  Moore had a solid season with the Saints in 2016 and is considered a very desirable commodity in the CB free agent market.  Moore has worked himself into a solid CB in the NFL after being a UDFA out of college; Moore bounced around with a couple of teams before finding a home with the Saints.

Moore will most likely never be a Pro Bowler, however; he is versatile and he gives his all on every play. Another major factor is that Moore won’t break the bank to sign him and he would be a welcome addition to the Giants CB depth chart.

Final Thoughts: There are several other FA cornerbacks available this off-season, however; I felt that only these three were worth mentioning in terms of talent and within the Giants budget. I firmly expect Reese to explore the draft for a CB as well.
