Big Blue are finalizing the 2020 coaching staff. New head coach Joe Judge has a tall task turning this franchise around and it starts with putting the right assistants in place.

Patrick Graham

Patrick Graham is the new D-Coordinator. Judge and Graham both talk a lot about fundamentals, toughness, and tackling as a priority. When asked about the scheme, Graham said it doesn’t matter the scheme because it’s about using what you have to win, back to the fundamentals, which the Giants lack.

Since he hasn’t been too experienced, I expect Gettleman and Judge to spend resources on defensive players to bring stability. They cannot afford to be undermanned like former DC James Bettcher. Bettcher had limited talent on the field as a young DC.

Thomas McGaughey

Thomas McGaughey is returning as Special Teams Coordinator. He said Judge and him meshed well and they view things the same way. Judge as a specials guy should help here but McGaughey already has had the Gmen special teams units dramatically better than it was before he came.

Jason Garrett

The real home run is hiring former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett as the new Offensive Coordinator. I LOVE this hire. His offense was FIRST in total yards this season, 2nd in passing and 5th in rushing. He was an NFL head coach for a decade with a winning record and won Coach of the Year in 2016. Garrett has a track record as a great play-caller and despite him being criticized as an average head coach, he has the ability to put together an offensive game plan that wins. He has had a history of developing young QBs (Romo and Dak). And let’s not forget he was a backup QB to Hall of Famer Troy Aikman for 3 championships and Kerry Collins for the Giants Super Bowl run in 2000.

Garrett has also played for or worked under: Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, Sean Payton, and Nick Saban – He knows the division, specifically the Cowboys inside and out. The NY Giants offense is in great hands.
