New York Giants: Could Akeem Hunt be the next Dave Meggett

Giants GM Jerry Reese only signed 6 UDFA, however; one of them was Akeem Hunt. Hunt played at the University of Purdue and starred at RB and KR. A look at his Pro Day Results (see chart below) shows that Hunt has the athletic ability that could help a time.

His senior year at Purdue might not have been as impressive as some of the RB’s in this draft, however; it did indicate that Hunt has the ability to be productive. (173 carries/949 yards/6 TDS/48 receptions/293 yards/2 TDS).

Pro Day Results: 40-yard Dash: 4.40 10-yd Split: 1.53 3 Cone Drill: 6.71 Shuttle Run: 4.07 Vertical Jump: 37.5” Broad Jump: 10’2” Bench Press (225 lbs): 14 reps

Hunt has terrific speed to create separation to be a weapon anytime on the field. Aside from his running abilities, hunt excelled in the passing game as he led the team in 2014 in receptions. Make no mistake, Hunt is a threat every time he touches the ball.

After watching film on Hunt, I couldn’t help but be reminded of a former Giants RB/KR by the name Dave Meggett. Meggett brought a different dimension to the Giants offense with his arrival. Opposing teams had a tough time matching up against him and often times Meggett would make the big play whether it was out of the backfield or on special teams.

Whether or not Hunt can duplicate the success of Meggett is still unwritten. However; training camp is going to be interesting to see just how well Hunt can perform. Obviously, the odds are against him to make the 53 man roster.

Perhaps the Giants could place him on the practice squad, if he shows enough skill to warrant it. If so, then maybe; just maybe the Giants might have found the next Dave Meggett.
