All David Wilson could do was stand and watch from the sideline as Eli Manning’s screen pass deflected off Da’Rel Scott’s hands right to Cornerback Brandon Carr, who snared the ball and took it 49 yards for a touchdown to make the score 36-24 in favor of the Dallas Cowboys – all but crushing the New York Giants’ hopes of a dramatic comeback.

Wilson’s overall ineffectiveness – including with his inability to secure the ball – all but sealed the Giants’ fate Sunday night.

“I’m just gonna keep working hard,” Wilson told Art Stapleton of The Record.  “I’m at the bottom now.  So nowhere to go but up from here.”

For Wilson, the bottom looks like seven carries for 19 yards, an average of 2.7 yards-per-carry, no touchdowns and two fumbles, both lost.

While the ineffectiveness on the ground can at least be partially contributed to the sub-par play of fill-in Left Guard James Brewer and Fullback Henry Hynoski, who clearly has not fully recovered from the knee problems that have plagued him since the beginning of training camp.

However, no excuses can be made for the fumbles.

As for the Giants, Wilson hitting rock bottom in Dallas only hastens up the search to find a replacement for Brown, who has been placed on recallable IR.

Former Giant Brandon Jacobs, was signed Tuesday.  Wilson will now find himself thrust back into a competition, and will need to step his game up if he expects to retain his starting role.

A review of Joe’s prediction:

Predicted: 22 rushes, 90 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 receptions, 24 yards, 0 touchdowns.

Actual: 7 rushes, 19 yards, 0 touchdowns, 2 fumbles, 0 receptions, 0 yards, 0 touchdowns

Verdict: Missed it by that much.

Check back on Friday when I’ll preview the upcoming matchup against the Denver Broncos, and offer a *hopefully* more accurate prediction.
