NY Giants Game Ball: Week 2 – Sterling Shepard

Sterling Shepard knew that getting drafted by the New York Giants meant he was about to become apart of something much bigger than himself and his college experiences.   His new home was New York…the home of the 4x Super Bowl Champions, Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.

But was more daunting was the fact that one of the most beloved New York Giants of all time, Victor Cruz was making a comeback and could potentially keep him on the bench.   Shepard knew to keep his head down, make plays and embrace his new family.  However, both head coach Ben McAdoo and OC Mike Sullivan recognized that he was a special player right from the start and implemented his talent as soon as training camp started.

Yesterday vs. the Saints, Sterling Shepard showed up and made a statement that he belonged.  No. 87 didn’t just have one great catch or a highlight reel grab, instead he racked up eight catches for 117 yards, with a 32 yard downfield snag and run.   He “balled” all day, making a handful of great grabs off slants, skinny posts and rubs, proving that he really can play at this level.

Once the three-headed monster of Beckham, Cruz, Shepard are fully in sync…this offense could lead the league in many offensive categories.  While the offense did not put the ball in the end zone, it does not take away from the great performance of one…Sterling Shepard.  Great job rookie!  5 out of his 8 catches moved the chains for a 1st down. Sterling Shepard deserves the game ball for week number 2.

While Eli Manning looked very sharp throwing for 368 yards, his fumble pushed us to give Shepard the nod for the week.
