Some thing to chew on before Tuesday’s Free Agency frenzy.

Free Agent Defensive Tackle Cullen Jenkins formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles and The Green Bay Packers has decided to make a run with Big Blue.  Jenkins signed a 3-year deal worth 8 millions dollars with 3 million in guaranteed money.

Jenkins brings nine years of experience to the table, which the Giants sorely need after cutting Chris Canty.  The last four years Jenkins has had some nice numbers averaging 30 tackles a year & 5 sacks.

The signing of the 6′ 2″ 305 lbs. defensive tackle does scream desperation since the big body just turned 32 this past January.  I thought the team was trying to get younger and I don’t see how Jenkins fits in however he might find a bit of the fountain of youth playing along side Linval Joseph and Jason Pierre Paul.

Jenkins will be expected to start come September to give the Giants a solid defensive lineup.  The nice thing about the nine year veteran Jenkins is very durable for a man who makes his living in the trenches.  Jenkins has only missed 17 games over nine years and 12 of them were during the 2008 season.
