Giants Odell Beckham Jr. visits Revis Island

By Andrew Santoro

The New York Giants will host the New York Jets this Sunday at MetLife Stadium. For a home game, one player will be forced to make a trip, a trip to Revis Island.   If Revis plays due to a concussion, it will Beckham’s maiden voyage to Revis Island.  Even though the New York Giants face the New York Jets every preseason Odell Beckham has not been active for either one of those outings.

Darrelle Revis, the 2007 14th overall pick and future Hall Of Famer, is not quite the player he used to be, but he is still not a player to be taken lightly. However, I do see some holes in the Jets defensive scheme led by, first-year head coach Todd Bowles.

One being, you live by the blitz, you die by the blitz! Meaning, with Darrelle Revis, excelling in man coverage it would allow Todd Bowles to dial-up more blitzes. In turn leaving one of the Giants pass catching options open, also leaving Odell Beckham in single man coverage.

With Odell Beckham being known for his speed, and big play ability, one would imagine Darrell Revis will be giving him somewhat of a cushion off the line of scrimmage. Allowing Ben McAddo’s quick attacking passing game to excel. With routes like the slant and the hitch Odell Beckham should be able to snatch a few Eli Manning passes.  Will it be enough to make a difference, is the question.

Let’s take a brief look at Odell Beckham’s, rookie campaign when he faced the great Richard Sherman.  According to NFL.com Odell Beckham Jr had a team-high 7 receptions for 108 yards.

After the game the Seahawks defensive back was quoted as saying Odell Beckham ‘is a great player.’ Which came as a shock to most, considering Sherman’s otherwise outspoken bravado and arrogance.

If Revis does play, it will be fun to watch.  Beckham will get his catches regardless and there is a good chance Revis will echo Richard Sherman’s sentiments.
