Introduction: The 2019 NFL combine is complete and as expected many prospects failed to impress; which others shined. Among the group of prospects that really impressed NFL teams were the hog mollies (Offensive and Defensive linemen) a name given to them by GM Dave Gettleman. Below is a list of my top hog mollies in the 2019 NFL combine.

Offensive Linemen

Erik McCoy (OC/OG) Texas A&M: McCoy had the fastest 40-yard-dash time among the offensive linemen (4.89).  McCoy was projected as a possible day 3 selection, however; this could catapult him into day 2 of the draft.

Garrett Bradbury (OC) N.C. State: Bradbury excelled in all facets at the combine and could be the first center off the board on draft. Before the combine, Bradbury was viewed as a possible late day 2 to early day 3 pick. This could place him as a possible late 1st 1st early 2nd round pick.

Iosua Opeta OT) Weber State: Opeta was basically an unknown prospect when the combines began. However; many scouts know his name now after a very impressive showing. Opeta displayed power (39 reps) and quickness (5.02) and see his stock rise.

Chris Lindstrom (OG) Boston College: Lindstrom’s overall performance will help move up a bit in the draft. Projected as a mid to late 2nd rounder before the combine; Lindstrom could hear his name called late on day 1.

Defensive Linemen

Quinnen Williams (DT) Alabama: Williams ran a 4.83 weighing in at 303 pounds and displayed agility and quickness in the other drills. Many scouts now believe that Williams might be considered as the 1st overall pick. Not many defensive linemen could display that much speed to go along with his immense power.

Rashan Gary (DE) Michigan: Gary has been criticized for his inconsistent play at Michigan, however; after his performance at the combine (top 4 in every drill, except the bench press), many believe he could to in the top 5. Gary’s freakish athletic ability will be fun to watch at the next level.

Jerry Tillery (DT) Notre Dame: At nearly 300 pounds, Tillery ran a 4.97 and showed his well-rounded athleticism with solid times in the three cone drill (7.45) and also in the broad jump (9’7). Tillery should move up the board on draft day.

Montez Sweat (DE) Mississippi State: Of all the great performances at the NFL combine, no one was more impressive than Montez Sweat.  Sweat was not an unknown as he had an excellent showing at the Senior Bowl, but his performance at the combine was the icing on the cake. Sweat excelled in all drills, but the one that caught everyone’s eyes was his 4.41 in the 40 yard dash. At 6’6 and weighing 260 is almost unheard of and for that; Sweat could crack the top 10 on draft day

Final Thoughts: Whether you get stock in the NFL combine or not, it’s fun watch these great young prospects showcase their abilities. Many mock drafts are now being reshuffled and we should see some unfamiliar names moving up and some recognizable names moving down the board. Personally; I believe the combine is more for show than a true indication of what a prospect will project into.
