Joe Judge and Dave Gettleman selected UCLA cornerback Darnay Holmes in the 4th round of the 2020 NFL Draft.  He now joins the “Killer B’s” with Bradberry, Baker, Ballantine, Beal. The cornerback room is getting crowded with great depth.

Pedigree:

Darnay Darius Robert Holmes is the son of Darick Holmes, who played running back for the Bills, Packers, and Colts from 1995-1999. I always value the pedigree of having a guy who’s from a football family. Darnay knows what to expect and has the god-given genetics to be a professional athlete.

Size and Speed:

He’s under 5’10” and about 198 pounds which is part of the reason he’s a mid-round draft pick. Due to him being undersized he can’t play down in down out on the outside against big, physical elite level wideouts. He isn’t known for a quick-twitch burst when changing direction and better route runners will take advantage of this.

His speed (4.48 40 time) and toughness for his size are impressive. He’s always aggressive at the point of attack and finishes plays well. Holmes isn’t afraid of contact and will get in your face during shorter routes.

Overall at this point in the draft, the Giants chose an athlete and best player available as opposed to reaching for a position of need.  Expect him to challenge for a spot at slot or outside in certain packages due to his versatility. He will get a start on special teams also.
