With their pick in the 5th round of the 2020 NFL draft the New York Giants select offensive guard Shane Lemieux out of Oregon. Lemieux is a no-nonsense blue-collar guard who plays a very physical game. Lemieux is more of a road grader in the running game but is above average as a pass protector.

How does Lemieux fit the Giants system:

Based on three offensive linemen already taken with the Giants’ first 5 picks tells me that OC Jason Garrett had some influence in this new offense and it depends on a solid offensive line. Between the tackles, Lemieux is at his best and his style of play will wear down an opponent.

How does Lemieux not fit the Giants system:

The only argument you could have with Lemieux is that he is not as effective in open space as he is within the trenches. This is not to say he couldn’t improve in this department, but it could take some time.

Final Thoughts: GM Dave Gettleman has finally addressed the offensive line in the 2020 NFL draft with three selections; which is one more than both the 2018 and 2019 draft combine. I believe these picks are setting the Giants up for the future as it’s reported that Nate Solder is more than likely playing in his final season with the Giants and guard Kevin Zeitler could be gone before the start of the 2022 season.
