The Giants are sitting at #11 in the upcoming NFL 2021 draft and there are speculations that possibly four Quarterbacks could be taken within the top 10. In addition to that, three wide receivers could also be taken within the top 10; which could move other projected top 10 prospects down the board and possibly into the Giants lap. In this scenario, what if one of the quarterbacks are available when the Giants pick and many of the prospects the Giants are targeting are already off the board. Should GM Dave Gettleman consider trading back as teams who are looking for a franchise quarterback could be willing to move up and make a deal.

It’s only fair to mention that Dave Gettleman has never traded back in the 1st round and the likelihood of him doing so is unrealistic, but it still needs to be mentioned as an option. Let’s take a look at the top 3 teams that could trade up with the Giants:

  • San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers are sitting at #12 and could still stay where they are and let the draft come to them. However; if the Giants are considering on trading back for additional picks and the 49ers have a high grade on the quarterback still on the board; they could make a call to the Giants to avoid another team to leap frog over them. If so, here’s what the offer could look like: Trade Package: 2021 1st and 4th round picks in 2021 and an additional 3rd round pick in 2022 for the Giants pick #11.
  • New England Patriots: The Patriots have the 15th overall pick and this team struggled at the quarterback position in 2020. Bill Belichick could also be inclined to sit back and wait until his pick in the 1st or draft a quarterback in round 2 as Alabama quarterback Mac Jones could be an option. However; if he has strong convictions that the quarterback still on the board is worth investing in. he could be tempted to swing a deal. If so, here’s what the offer could look like: Trade Package: 2021 1st and 4th round picks or 2022 2nd round pick for the Giants pick #11.
  • Chicago Bears: The Bears are picking at #20 in the 1st round and this team is desperate for a franchise quarterback and would need to really sweeten the pot if they want Gettleman to move nine spots back. Again, quarterback Mac Jones could be an option if the Bears really have a high grade on him. If not, here’s what the offer could look like: Trade Package: their 1st and 2nd round picks and their 2022 2nd round pick for the Giants pick #11.

If the Giants GM Dave Gettleman does make a bold move and trades back for additional picks; there will be plenty of talent sitting there for him to choose from.  Keep in mind that starting Quarterbacks DeShaun Watson, Matt Ryan, Sam Darnold, Jimmy Garoppolo, Carson Wentz, Drew Lock, Dak Prescott and Philip Rivers are among the quarterback group that could find new homes in 2021. The 49ers, Patriots and Bears could certainly go in this direction for their new quarterback. However; with the current salary cap projected at $185M, they may not have the cap space or assets to trade for an establish quarterback to help turn their team around.
