Introduction: The New York Giants continue their winning ways with their 4th straight win against the Seattle Seahawks 17-12.  This was a game the Giants weren’t suppose to win even with a healthy Daniel Jones. With the win, the Giants are inching closer to a division title with only 4 games remaining. Here are my top 5 reasons why the Giants won:

  • Battle in the Trenches: The Offensive line was able to sustain the Seahawk’s pressure when they did load the box and were able to once again produce 190 yards on the grounds; which is a team-high this year. Running Backs Wayne Gallman (16/135) and Alfred Morris (two touchdowns) benefitted along with quarterback Colt McCoy who was only sacked twice to Seattle’s quarterback Russell Wilson’s five sacks.
  • Finishers: The Giants defense played their best game of the season with a bend, but not break mentality. The Seahawks average nearly 27 points per game and the Giants defense only allowed 12.
  • Time of Possession: The Giants were able to sustain drives; which I thought they wouldn’t and kept the time of possession fairly close with 29:49 to Seattle’s 30:11.
  • Opportunistic: The Giants were won the battle of the turnovers 2 to 1 and also dominated in the sack department (5 to 2). The Giants also were productive in the red zone going 2 for 3.
  • Big Plays: Running back Wayne Gallman had his best game as a Giant by far with 16 carries for 135 yards as he produced a big play for the Giants with a 65 yard run; which help set up the Giants 1st or two touchdowns both by Alfred Morris.

 Final Thoughts:

The Giants are now 5-7 and will face the Arizona Cardinals who lost to the Rams 38-28. The Eagles lost to the Packers and Washington and Dallas will play the Steelers and Ravens respectfully Monday and Tuesday.

I expected the Seahawks to load the box for the majority of their defensive snaps; which they all only did about 10% of the time and when they did it was affective. Not sure why they didn’t do it more, but that’s fine by me.  This win could catapult the Giants the rest of the season and give them the confidence that was lacking earlier in the season.
