David Wilson didn’t get many opportunities to prove himself in the backfield early on in the season. After fumbling away his chance in the opening game against Dallas last year, Wilson used special teams to display not only his speed, but his explosive running ability.

Wilson racked up over 1,500 yards and a score returning kicks last season, and proved he was ready to take on a larger role in the offense. With Ahmad Bradshaw out of town, the backfield is wide open for Wilson to take the lead, and now that he’s the projected starter, his role on special teams is expected to be diminished.

Starting running backs are not usually not the primary kick off returners, but if Wilson had a say, he’d balance both.

“I want to be the kick returner, and if it was up to me I would be the kick returner,” Wilson said. ” I think if it was up to the special teams coach I’d be the kick returner”

Speaking at Justin Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy charity event in NYC, Wilson told GiantsRush.com that his “goal” is to win a Super Bowl, as last season was a disappointment for the young stud.
Whatever his role may be this season, it’s safe to say that speed will be on display all year, no matter where Wilson’s starting line may be.
