The Giants desperately need a change at wide receiver. After the Browns and Cardinals game you could see Jones clearly has no one to throw the ball to you. There is no speed, separation or the ability to drive deep.

Sterling Shepard:

Sterling Shepard continues to grind and is still the best route runner on the team who consistently moves the changes; however, he is not the guy opponents game plan for, nor does he stretch the field burning cornerbacks with his speed. He moves the chains.

Darius Slayton:

Slayton is a fine receiver and a steal in the 5th round. Slayton disappears in big chunks that could be the offensive the Garrett runs. While he could be dealing with a nagging injury, he clearly isn’t the player he was and does not create enough separation for Jones to target consistently.

Golden Tate:

Golden Tate is too expensive for one or two catches a game. He must be removed in the off season. The PED’s, the injuries and social media tantrum has sealed his fate.

The Draft:

The college football fan loves Devonta Smith, the 6’1″ 170 lbs. wide receiver from Alabama. He has amassed over 3620 yards and 40 TDs after 4 years and will clearly be the the 1st or 2nd receiver off the board and a top 12 pick. He is also considered light for an NFL receiver. Cole Beasley and Desean Jackson are lighter receiver that have found success.

Questions for New York Giants:

* Are they willing to draft Smith and put 15 to 20 pounds on him

* Does Smith have a lot of miles on his frame after four years

* Can Smith be explosive at 190 lbs or be successful at 170-175 lbs.

Wide Receiver recent history:

First round wide receivers have not panned out well for NFL teams. This is a huge red flag for the New York Giants. They can not afford a 1st round pick to flame out or bust. From 2015 to 2019 no receiver taken since Amari Cooper has made the Pro Bowl (4x). Parker finally blew up this year.

Tyler Lockett (3rd round) made the Pro Bowl in 2015 as a returner, Stefon Diggs and Michael Thomas are great second round picks.

1st round picks are busts: Agholor, White, Perriman, Dorrsett, Coleman, Fuller, Doctson, Fuller

Bigger receivers: Jeudy, Ruggs, Lamb, Jefferson, Higgins, Mims, Adams, Pittman, Claypool, Kupp, JuJu are all over 190 pounds. These receivers that are having great years bigger and stronger to take the pounding on an NFL season.
