Giants Draft Preview: Defensive Ends/Edge Rushers

By: Marco Imperati

The Giants are in need of players that can get after the quarterback in this years draft. Well fortunately for them, this is a draft that is loaded with pass rushers. Experts speculate that up to 30-35 edge rushers have round 1-3 grades on them. Value and good players are there for the Giants. Among these talented players, Jerry Reese and company will have to sift through to find the best player, the best difference maker for a Giants defense that must rebound in 2016. Here are my top 3 edge rushers for the Giants to consider in round 1 of the 2016 NFL draft.

1. Joey Bosa, Ohio State

Ranked number one by most of the draft experts as the best edge rusher in the 2016 draft. More than likely, although anything can happen, that Bosa will be long gone by the time the Giants pick at No. 10.  Don’t be confused by his low-key personality and demeanor. Bosa has an edge and motor that will drive offensive lines crazy. He’s been compared to pro bowlers Jared Allen and Michael Bennett.

2. Noah Spence, Eastern Kentucky

Spence, ironically is Bosa’s former teammate at Ohio State University and, is going to give front offices a lot to think about. He has all the skills to be compared to Von Miller and Kahlil Mack being a smaller, faster defensive end, but his off the field problems are eye-opening enough to keep his name off team’s draft boards. There is a strong possibility that Spence will be there when the Giants pick, however, they usually don’t dip into the pool of off the field problems like the ones Spence has had.
3. Shaq Lawson, Clemson

For Giants fans that want versatility out of their No. 10 pick, here is your guy.  His strong combine could push him into the top ten but he is very realistic for the NY Giants. Could line up anywhere on the defensive line and rush the passer as an outside linebacker. Big, fast, and long is what the Giants prefer and this is what they will get in Lawson.

Tough player who played through an injury in the National Championship game loss vs Alabama. If you’re asking me today, I’d say Lawson could be the guy at No. 10 for the Giants.
