Giants Sign Running Back Orleans Darkwa

The Giants have been crippled by injuries.  The running back position was hit the hardest over the first 8 games.

  • David Wilson – forced retirement – neck injury
  • Rashad Jennings Knee injury – missed 4 games
  • Peyton Hillis – Concussion
  • Michael Cox – broken leg

Today the Giants signed running back Orleans Darkwa from the Miami Dolphins practice squad.  Darkwa was an undrafted back from Tulane where he played 4 years and racked up over 2900 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Giants.com noted that Darkwa had earned his roster spot by rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown during pre-season, including a big rip of 53 yards against the Cowboys.  He is 6 foot and 215 pounds.

The Nashville Tennessee native should be active against the 49ers as the status of Peyton Hillis is uncertain at this point.  Cox will be sent to injured reserve.
