The Giants are slowly putting the pieces together

The Giants defeated the Bills on Sunday 24 to 10 with the reworked defense making an impressive showing.   Week 4 Rant & Rave.  Bam!

Rant:   The Giants need a tight end.  Larry Donnell has come up very small and his blocking is suspect.   Daniel Fells, the best overall tight end on the team is out with a staff infection.  He is being treated; however, Fells season might be over.   Jerome Cunningham the up and coming end from Southern Connecticut is hurt.

So what do they Giants do?  They try out Chris Cooley who hasn’t played since 2012 and a handful of cast offs and B level players.  What is going on?   Even Matt LaCosse who had a stellar camp is a better option. Adrien Robinson might be brought back.  Ugh!

Rave:  Spags has Giants D rated #1 against defending the run and Defensive End, Kerry Wynn played a huge part on Sunday.  Eight tackles, 2 for a loss.   While that does not sound ground breaking, his play against the run was impressive, especially during the goal line stance.  His hustle, flying to ball carrier should be commended and noted that without that hustle Buffalo would have scored.

Rant: Ben McAdoo must be on vacation.  The offense looks very pedestrian.   Last season McAdoo was praised for getting Eli out-of-pocket on rolls out, as well as making a superstar in Beckham.   In comes Shane Vereen…another deadly weapon that defected the Patriots, yet so far OBJ and Vereen are mediocre.   McAdoo needs to get the ball in the play-makers hands.   Slants?  Screens? Reverses? Roll Outs?

Rave: For the second year in a row, Prince Amukamara has had an impressive few games to start the season.   If Prince can stay healthy, not only will he get paid but he will remain a Giant for some time.   His strip fumble and recovery was the changing point in the game on Sunday.  He has improved every year and is a great community guy.

Rant:  The Offensive line is very big and very strong.  While I understand they are all new at their position, I expected more out of the run game.   The Giants can barely get out of their own way with three very good backs.   Maybe the line needs more opportunities to pound the ball, but they need to figure it out.

Rave:  Devon Kennard is on his way to becoming a star for the Giants.  As you saw on Sunday with his amazing interception/take away along the sideline that his game is progressing every week.  He currently has 25 tackles, 1 INT, 4 passes defended.    The 5th rd. pick from USC is looking like a major find.
