The Giants were beaten up by the Cleveland Browns Sunday night to the tune of 20 – 6 at home.  I’m sure the NFL immediately regrets flexing Big Blue into the prime time spot. The offense continues to struggle and is one of the worst units in the league, and the defense wasn’t as good as it has been this season.  Daniel Jones missed his 2nd game in 3 weeks giving Colt McCoy another opportunity.

Dimes, Crimes, overall evaluation:

McCoy completed 19 of 31 passes for 221 yards with no TDs or INTs, good for a rating of 82.9

The first 3 drives put the Gmen in the RedZone and in those 3 trips they came away with 3 points.  A lot of discussions are around the coaching decisions here. McCoy did a nice job leading the offense down the field in each of these drives.  He had Evan Engram in the endzone and although the ball was a touch underthrown, the defender made a nice play. Engram got his hands on it, but you know how that ends…a typical Engram play with no catch.

Those first 3 possessions were all the Giants had in the first half, and in the second half, they would only have 4 more drives.

McCoy didn’t go 3 and out at all but didn’t make any great plays.  He is clearly a backup Quarterback; however, his receivers did little to help him regardless of his lack of arm strength.

The lack of offensive talent showed up again.  Darius Slayton dropped another pass, and Sterling Shepard and the rest of the wideouts created very little separation despite what Shepard said after the game in his press conference.  The offensive problems exist whether McCoy or Jones is at QB.

Next year if the Giants don’t address the talent issues on offense, and give DJ a fair opportunity to succeed, it will be truly difficult to evaluate whether or not he’s the guy moving forward.
