The Giants continued their winning ways with a stunning upset over the Seahawks in Seattle.  Big Blue is now 5-7 and in the driver seat to win the NFC East.  They were 10.5 point underdogs, and Daniel Jones had to watch from the sideline due to a hamstring injury.  Colt McCoy would get his first start as a Giant.

THE DIGITS:

The stat line was what you might expect from a backup QB . After all, there is a reason Colt McCoy isn’t a starter.  He accounted for 13 completions on 22 attempts for 104 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.

DIMES, CRIMES, OVERALL EVALUATION:

It was ugly for a while, The GMen trailed 5-0 at halftime.  McCoy didn’t get much help in the first half though – Sterling Shepard had a drop, and McCoy’s CRIME of the game can be credited to Evan Engram who had his weekly moment of hurting the team.

McCoy’s interception went through Engram’s hands before the Seahawks took it away and the Giants’ opportunity to kick a field goal vanished. In the 3rd quarter, the Giants imposed their will upfront, and the running game sparked making it easy for McCoy.  They ran for 190 yards and Wayne Gallman was responsible for 135 yards of it.

McCoy’s best 3 stretches were:

A few first downs to Tate early (4 targets, 4 completions for 30 yards), the play-action touchdown pass to Morris in the flat in the 3rd quarter, and the laser to Slayton for 14 yards late when the offense desperately needed a first down.  He also put a fade on the money to Shepard in the corner of the endzone for the 2 pt. conversion.

All in all, McCoy did just enough to allow the defensive to dominate and the offensive line to physically manhandle the Seahawks.  Let’s see how DJs hamstring injury progresses during the week but it’s comforting to know the team can rally around McCoy if needed. And now McCoy has some experience with this team under his belt if he’s called upon again.

Let’s get back to some Java as soon as possible.
