The New York Giants have added much needed talent to the current roster after free agency with their top 3 free agents signings being WR Kenny Golladay, TE Kyle Rudolph and CB Adoree Jackson. However; lost in this free agency frenzy, the Giants also hired three new coaches who I believe will make a significant impact to the development and production in certain areas and in certain players in 2021. Let’s take a quick look at the New York Giants top 3 new faces on the coaching staff:

  • Rob Sale (Offensive Line Coach): Rob Sale was the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Louisiana in 2020 and also spent time at Alabama as the team’s strength and conditioning assistant and offensive analyst. Sale’s innovated coaching style along with his thorough preparation to detail and what he expects from his linemen should serve him well as the Giants new Offensive line coach and we could see certain linemen take it to the next level.
  • Pat Flaherty (Advisor): Pat Flaherty was the Giants offensive line coach from 2004-15 and has two Super Bowls rings on his resume.  The 64 year old will serve as an advisor for the Giants mostly involved with the offensive line. Flaherty’s wealth of experience will be looked upon to give the Giants that edge to improve their overall performance of each linemen and the offensive line collectively.
  • Russ Callaway (Offensive Assistant): The hiring of Russ Callaway could be the best hiring this off season in regards to the Giants having a diversified offensive game plan for not only before the game, but also during the game in terms of adjustments.  Callaway spent 2020 with LSU as an offensive analyst, before that he was the offensive coordinator at Samford and served time at Alabama at the same time Joe Judge was there. Callaway’s overall talent to breakdown and analysis the game film will be an added asset for the Giants and OC Jason Garrett.

In case you haven’t noticed, two of the three new hires have a connection to Joe Judge at Alabama and they all have a reputation of being detailed orient and demanding high levels of excellence. Head Coach Joe Judge is not only building a roster with the type of players he wants to do battle with every Sunday; he is also assembling a coaching staff that shares his beliefs and work ethic to bring the best in each player on the roster.

To become a winning organization it certainly helps to have talent on your roster, but don’t overlook the importance of having talent on your coaching staff. Coaches that don’t accept failure; and don’t allow players to not give 100% for the good of the team. It has been a good off-season thus far for the Giants and once the completion of the draft and the UDFA signings, it could be even better.
