Why the Giants lost..Again!

By Michael Stewart

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the New York Giants they lose to the San Francisco 49ers 31-21. This has to be one of the worse seasons for the Giants and for Giant fans as they fall to 1-8. This loss should seal the fate of GM Jerry Reese and Head Coach Ben McAdoo, if ownership was still undecided. In my preview, I listed three matchups that the Giants needed to win and they were 1. Quarterback Eli Manning needed to outplay rookie quarterback C.J Beathard 2. The Giants Defense needed to outplay the 49ers defense, and 3) The Giants needed to win the battle of turnovers. Well, the Giants failed in 2 of the 3 and it cost them the game. Below are my top reasons why the Giants lost to the 49ers:

Top reasons why the Giants lost

  • Big plays by the 49ers: The 49ers scored three touchdowns on three big plays. An 83 yard pass to wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, a 47 yard pass to tight end Garrett Celek and a 33 yard run by running back Matt Breida. The longest play for the Giants was a 26 yard pass to wide receiver Sterling Shepard.

  • Quarterback C.J Beathard: The Giants needed Eli Manning to out shine the rookie quarterback and to be the best offensive player on the field, if the Giants had any chance of winning. Instead, Beathard played with a lot of poise and nearly 300 yards in the air to help give the 49ers their first win of the season.

  • Giants defense: Over the last two games since their bye week, the Giants have surrendered a total of 82 points and look more like the 2015 team instead of the 2016 team. The Giants defense gave up 186 yards on the ground to a 49ers running attack that was ranked near the bottom of the league. Let’s not forget how horribly the secondary has been playing by giving up big plays all season long.

Hero: QB C.J Beathard: Got to give it to the young quarterback for outplaying Manning; while knowing that the team just traded for Jimmy Garroppolo recently as their future quarterback. Beathard responded with a performance that was not only good enough to give the 49ers their first win of the season. Also, a performance that will increase his trade value; should the 49ers decide to make him available.

Goat: Giant’s Defense: Watching the Giants this year to tough to do, especially a defense that can’t tackle, can’t make big plays, gives up too many big plays and looks as though they have given up.

Final Thoughts: If the ownership were on the fence on deciding the fate of GM Jerry Reese and Head Coach Ben McAdoo before this game. Then they should be in agreement that the Giants need to clean house this off season and that cleaning should start with GM Jerry Reese and Head Coach Ben McAdoo. Next week the Giants host the Kansas City Chiefs at Met Life Stadium; who are 6-3 this season.
