Who should be the new head coach for the New York Giants?

Who should be the new General Manager for the New York Giants?

Everyone has their wish list, backed up with stats and analysis on why their candidate makes the most sense.   My list is very short and truth be told, I really only need to highlight one dynamic duo.

Would it be safe to say you want a coach that is young but experienced?   Would it be safe to say you want a coach that has been a leader of men, a mentor and coach that has been part of a Super Bowl winning franchise?  A bonus would be if this individual coached the best player in the game.

If so, it’s safe to say that you want a GM that has built winning football teams, helped draft some of today’s most dynamic players and was instrumental in building an NFL dynasty.  If this description intrigues you…I can unveil the best candidates to take over the New York Giants and bring back their winning ways.

Josh McDaniels –  Head Coach

Josh McDaniels is 41 years old and the New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator and quarterback coach.  He has been a member of the Patriots staff for all five Super Bowl wins.  From 2001 through 2008, he worked his way up from personnel assistant to Offensive Coordinator.   He eats and sleeps the Bill Belichick way of life.

McDaniels had a short stint as the Denver Broncos Head Coach where he went 8-8 and 3-9.  He never finished his second season.   His quarterbacks were Jay Cutler and Kyle Orton, he didn’t have much work with.   After being let go McDaniels became the Rams Offensive Coordinator under head coach Steve Spagnuolo.  When the Bill O’Brien was named H.C. of Penn State, McDaniels was hired back to the Patriots.   He has been directly associated with Tom Brady and his success for 11 years.

* Fun Fact – McDaniels started coaching career at Michigan State under Nick Saban.

Scott Pioli – General Manager

Scott Pioli grew up in Washingtonville NY and is 52 years old.  His first NFL job was as a personnel assistant for the Browns.  He was hired by Bill Belichick the then head coach in Cleveland.  When the Browns moved to Baltimore Pioli followed and was promoted to Pro Personnel Director and helped drafted HOFer Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis.

Pioli followed Belichick to the Jets in ’97 and as the Director of Pro Personnel helped sign Kevin Mawae, Vinny Testaverde, and Bryan Cox.   In two years the Jets went from 1-15 to 12-4 and a division title.   Two years later Pioli once again followed Belichick to New England as was promoted to Vice President of player personnel.  Pioli and Belichick split the tasks of GM.  In 2007 Pioli executed the trades for Wes Welker and Randy Moss.

Pioli them moved to Kansas City as the team’s GM and took the Chiefs from worst to first in 2 years, winning the first division title in 7 years earning him NFL Executive of the Year.  Since 2014 Pioli has helped rebuild the Atlanta Falcons into a NFC powerhouse.  They went from a 4 win team before Pioli arrived to an 11 win team (3 seasons) and a Super Bowl appearance.

* Fun Fact – One of Pioli’s best friends off field is Bill Belichick and Pioli’s wife is Bill Parcells daughter.

McDaniels and Pioli have been together for many years.  They are direct disciples of Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick.   They have drafted, groomed and won with the best quarterback to ever play the game.   McDaniels is an offensive mind and he learned from the best.  Unlike McAdoo who was only a coordinator for two years and head coach for 1.5, McDaniels has been the OC for Patriots for nine years has his offensive has won 5 Super Bowls.

Ties to the New York Giants run deep.  Why look any further?
