Double Trouble in Round 3

By Michael Stewart @golferbad

The Giants went deep on defense in Round 3: Double trouble for opposing offenses

3rd Round: Lorenzo Carter (OLB) Georgia: Lorenzo Carter was in my final mock draft for the Giants; although I had him going in round 2. Carter at 6’6/250 is extremely athletic and an excellent defender in space.  He will be even more productive by adding 15 to 20 pounds to his frame to handle opposing linemen in the NFL.  His 82 inch wingspan enables him to separate himself from opposing linemen at the point of attack.

He can play effectively from a two-point stance and with his hand in the dirt.  Off the snap, Carter has an extremely quick first step and will be an effective OLB/DE in either a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive schemes. The knock on Carter was his inconsistency at times during his college career. If the Giants can get Carter to be more consistent, he could develop into a dominant player for the Giants.

In the Trenches:

3rd Round: B.J Hill (OT) North Carolina State: Playing alongside with the best defensive player in college football (Bradley Chubb) could possibly make you invisible.

However; Hill was as steady as any Defensive Tackle in college football.   B.J. was a run stuffing machine for the Wolfpack.  He is extremely athletic for his size (6’4/310) with quick feet and strong hands to neutralize his opposition at the point of attack and at times flashes as a pass rusher.   He will often use his quickness and football instincts to make a play behind the line of scrimmage.  B.J. can play anywhere along the defensive line in a 4-3 scheme and play the edge in a 3-4 if needed.  The big man will see some action as a rookie as a rotational DL for the Giants.
