This is part 2 of 10 in a series of player spotlights as the New York Giants will be counting on OLB Oshane Ximines to take the next step up in 2020. While there is still a possibility the Giants could re-sign Markus Golden as the Giants ranked 28th in sacks in 2019, Ximines role is expected to increase.

Last Season:

Ximines collected 4.5 sacks as a pass rush specialist in his rookie season, but the 2nd year player sees himself more as a permanent fixture on the Giants defense.

New Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham echoes those same sentiments as well; as he believes Ximines is capable of double-digits in sacks in 2020. Ximines has added an extra 10 pounds to his frame this season; which he believes will benefit him better in the trenches during a 16 game season.

The Giants GM Dave Gettleman focused on adding talent and depth to the roster this off season at the linebacker position with the addition of Kyler Fackrell, who will be competing with Ximines and Lorenzo Carter for playing time and also drafting Carter Coughlin and Cam Brown on Day 3.

Final Thoughts:

Joe Judge is very high on what Ximines can bring to the table and is expecting to see a much improved, more explosive player in 2020.  Currently, the roster is far from set to who we’ll see making this Giants team.

As mentioned earlier, there’s a strong likelihood that Markus Golden could rejoin the team after July 22 if no other teams sign him. If so, the Giants will have a solid group of OLB competing for playing time that they haven’t had in a very long time.
