The Safety Dance: The Giants Sign Safety Brandon Meriweather

by Craig J. Santucci | Managing Editor

The Safety Dance: At the beginning of training camp the questions poured in for Steve Spagnuolo and his staff on who will start at Safety.

On Friday the Giants got pasted by the Bengals and lost 2nd round draft pick Landon Collins and fifth round pick Mykkele Thompson to injuries…both played Safety.  While Collins maybe out week to week with an MCL sprain…Thompson is done with an Achilles tear.

So what do the Giants do?   Sign veteran safety Brandon Meriweather. Dave Merritt, the secondary/safety coach in his 12th season on the Giants’ coaching staff had been signing the praises of the Bennett Jackson; however after loosing Collins, Thompson, and the ever injured Nat Berhe, the Giants brass made a move.

Meriweather will be reunited with Giants linebacker Jon Beason his college teammate at the University of Miami.  If Meriweather can stay healthy he will most likely start. Meriweather is tabbed as an aggressive player who has trouble with injuries and penalties.

He had played 4 years with the Patriots,  1 season in Chicago and the last 3 years with the Washington Redskins.

The Giants do look at bit desperate with this move and the fans do have to wonder how bad is Cooper Taylor, Bennett Jackson, Jeremy Miles, Josh Gordy, and Justin Currie.
